Afghanistan War

22 January 2009 - Bak District, Khost Province, Afghanistan - Glasses from a dead insurgent, presumably killed by a 500 pound bomb dropped on their position by coalition forces, lay 1.5km from the Pakistan border. Coalition units air assaulted onto a nearby mountain to set up an observation point for four days. While maning the observation point, the units came under attack from insurgents, and returned fire with close air support, including F-15 Eagle fighter planes, A-10 Warthog fighter planes, AH-64 Apache Helicopters, OH-58 Kiowa Helicopters and artillery. Up to 22 insurgents were killed in the attack. Coalition forces sustained no casualties. (Photo Credit: Jonathan Saruk/Sipa Press)
