Selo, on one side of the Merapi Volcano, Indonesia - December 2010. A small number of men begin the four hour, four kilometer climb to the crater of the Merapi on a side of the mount undamaged by the recent eruptions. The climb, as well as the sacrification of the buffalo head, is part of the Sedekah Merapi annual religious/mystical ceremony to commerate and honor Merapi and also to appease those spirits that trouble the volcano.
